The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay began on October 30th in Victoria, British Columbia. The flame’s journey has lasted 90 days; over 45,000 kilometers have been traveled and it’s on it’s way back to the Opening Ceremony signaling the start of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games on February 12, 2010
The torch made a brief stop in Calgary on January 18, 2010 where thousands of Calgarians received the flame and gathered in and around Olympic Plaza. Not surprisingly, Coca-cola and RCB have been the main sponsors of the whole journey which only meant that advertisements and propaganda were heavily placed everywhere and the actual purpose or objective of the event were easily questionable. Regardless, it was a beautiful ceremony and people coming together for one cause is powerful enough to make even the stoniest hearts feel a little tender inside.
Here be some photos of whatever I could see between the crowds.
